Thursday 22 June saw our final Immersion Day of the year, and once again students were able to take part in a range of enriching experiences.
Half of our Year 7 students visited either DeMontfort or Nothingham Trent universities to learn all about university life and the paths that can lead them to higher education. The other half of the year group stayed in school, following a visit to Derby University in November, and explored the different careers available in certain subjects. We certainly hope we have some budding forensic scientists, codebreakers and journalists following their activities!
Our Year 8 students celebrated their successes this year through their graduation ceremonies. They have been working hard all year to demonstrate how they meet our #TeamHeanor values and it was fantastic to see them recognised for these achievements in front of lots of parents. The students ended the day with their graduation party, a fun evening filled with dancing, burgers and inflatables!
Many of the students in Year 9 went out on trips: our keen footballers travelled to the Etihad Stadium to tour the ground that Manchester City calls home; some students visited the ThinkTank in Birmingham to explore the planetarium and lots of other scientific exhibitions; the adventurers amongst the year group went to Go Ape, where they engaged in team games and high ropes courses and our Art team took a group of students to explore the fascinating work at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The students who remained in school worked on a DTVA rotation, creating pieces linked to a summertime theme.
The geographers amongst Year 10 travelled to Mablethorpe to complete their GCSE practical fieldwork. They started by exploring the sand dunes before moving on to look at tourism in the town. The historians visited the Thackray Museum of Medicine in Leeds, where they were able to explore the development of medicine through time.
Finally, students in Year 12 took a trip to Sheffield University to engage with the richness of university life before they begin their UCAS applications.
Well done to all of our students who engaged in all of the activities during the day with such enthusiasm and true #TeamHeanor spirit.
