Post-16 Results Day 2023

It has been another successful results day for Heanor Gate Spencer Academy’s post-16 students, with lots to celebrate today. Our grades once again surpass those achieved in 2019 at all headline measures, which is the level that the government has publicly voiced their intent to see national statistics return to following the pandemic.

Mr Jones, Principal, has a message for our students and everyone connected with the academy:

We are extremely proud of our students. In really challenging circumstances during the pandemic, this cohort of students did not have the opportunity to sit their GCSE exams and we are really proud of how students managed their first set of formal high-stakes examinations. Their resilience, commitment and positive attitude has seen them achieve some remarkable grades.

Given the national rhetoric indicating that grades were due to return to 2019 levels, it is great that this is a pattern that we have seen at our academy. At A-Level, 46% of our students have achieved the top grades (A*-B) and with the 47% of our Year 13 students enrolled on an ‘Applied General’ or ‘Vocational’ qualifications, reporting an average grade of Distinction for those students is a phenomenal achievement.

As I often say, I think it would be remiss of me to mention individuals as success can be measured in a multitude of ways. What I will say is that every single Heanor Gate post-16 student should be immensely proud of themselves. The most important thing with any results day is that our young people secure the grades they need to move onto their intended destinations, whether that be university, apprenticeships or employment. I am confident that with the grades achieved today, every one of our young people will be able to move on to their chosen pathway in September.

I would like to finish by publicly thanking all of the amazing staff at our academy that have worked tirelessly to prepare our students for today. The expert teaching, the relentless level of guidance and the compassion shown to support this cohort through their first ever set of public examinations is something I am extremely proud of.

Congratulations once again to all of our students, you are amazing and we are proud of you all.

Mr Graham, Assistant Vice Principal and Head of Sixth Form, has a further message for our students and everyone connected with the academy:

On behalf of the Sixth Form team I would like to pass on our huge congratulations to all Year 13 students. Echoing the sentiments from Mr Jones, we truly are immensely proud of what you have achieved and the resilience you have shown throughout your Sixth Form journey. Early indications are that this positive set of results has once again secured exceptional destinations for our students, with 90% of university applicants being placed at their first choice institution. We also continue our track record of securing highly competitive institutions and courses for students including Oxbridge, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. As well as confirmation of traditional university places we are also immensely proud of seeing an increasing number of students this academic year go on to highly sought after degree apprenticeships. Whatever your post 18 destination, we wish you all the best for the future and look forward to hearing about your progress over the coming years.
