February half term saw Heanor Gate Spencer Academy take 93 students and 12 staff to Axamer Lizum in Austria for our annual ski trip. After a long 20ish hour coach journey, Heanor Gate students finally saw the beautiful Austrian alps and the excitement started, as well as some nerves with a realisation that we would have to ski down those mountains!
Once unpacked at the hotel, we had a firelit torch walk under a clear sky in the mountains and a traditional Austrian hot chocolate, before going to sleep ready for our first day of ski school and a jam-packed week ahead. Five days of ski school, lunches at the top of mountains, trips to Innsbruck, outdoor swimming and Terry’s famous bingo. The mountains will be missed!
Well done to all of our students which demonstrated our #TeamHeanor values throughout the week. Our students really did behave impeccably and our staff are very #proud to have been a part of a successful ski tour.
